Board member spotlight: Brianne Murphy

A deputy public defender at the San Diego Public Defender Office, Brianne joined the BSL board in 2019 and is the newest member of our executive committee. Here, in three questions, she sums up her role as vice president and the importance of our organization.

What led to your initial interest in BSL?

I found out about the board through a network of lawyer moms who do their best to support each other and promote social justice/awareness throughout the country. I am excited and honored to be a member of the BSL board—and, even more so, to have so quickly been nominated and elected as vice president.

What motivates you to be a part of this organization?

I am a deputy public defender and I have been employed as such for 15 years. As vice president I can help spread awareness to BSL’s services. San Diego is lacking in housing for many who need it; this is a great opportunity to give back.

What’s one of your most satisfying resident memories?

I have started a book club with the women of the houses. I find book club is a good way for me to get to know everyone, them to get to know each another, and to encourage an open and honest dialogue.
